Seismic monitoring using ocean bottom seismometers (OBS) is an efficient method for investigating earthquakes in deep ocean region far away from land using ocean research
vessels (ORV). The main objectives of ORV SK-360 cruise are-
i. Retrieval of 17 passive broadband ocean bottom seismometers (OBSs) in the
IOGL region which have been deployed for almost 15 months during SK-348
cruise to help in understanding the density-velocity structure of upper to mid-
mantle.
ii. Redeployment of 17 OBS units in the IOGL region for 1 year (± 2 months)
depending upon the satisfactory data recovery from the 1 st phase.
iii. Acquisition of other geophysical data along the cruise track. But due to time
constraint and priority for OBS operation, other geophysical data could not be
acquired along the track completely. Total track length is almost 6000 km (for
both onward and return track). |
